I'm on the crew team at UC Irvine, and this is my second year rowing. It is a great team sport, but it is a lot of hard work. I wake up every morning at 4:50AM and we practice until 10 am on most days. We have our regattas on the weekend, and we race teams from all over California and sometimes we race crews from back eats. Last year we got to travel all the way to New Jersey for the Avaya Championships, and let me just say it was pretty exciting to get to see Princeton's boathouse.

 
 
 
 

Independent Rowing News honored UCI with the 2002 best oar design. They liked them because on the front we have our school mascot, the anteater. On the back we have the UCI stack. To make it even more original, the women's oars were yellow with blue writing and vice versa for the men.
